1998 Hofner Cavern Bass for sale

The 1961re-issue Hofner 500/1 Cavern Bass is an accurate reproduction of Paul McCartney's first bass which was a 1961 flat back model 500/1 which he used on "Let it Be" and "Revolution" and is often seen in 1968 Revolution promo videos. McCartney’s was repaired in 1964 and is often seen with a large black pickup bezel added as part of the repair. Unfortunately the bass was stolen during the filming of "Revolution" in 1968.

The Cavern Bass 1961 has a flat back body, neck and hardware from Hofner Germany, add 2 diamond logo pickups with close to the neck "cavern" spacing, and finish the bass in a nitrocellulose sunburst finish resulting in the ultimate "Revolution" Beatles Bass. Specs also include 30" scale, solid hand carved top and original vertical logo. This bass was made in 1998 has no fret wear. It’s always been fitted with either Pyramid or Thomastik Infeld flat wound , low tension strings. This bass has beautiful tone, very deep and clear. For a Hofner it has excellent intonation, and excellent natural acoustic properties. Comes with a Hofner black hard shell case. Will ship to US lower 48 states.
$1,850.

The bass has been sold to a worthy buyer. Thank you.

    That looks gorgeous, heretic!

And as a devoted Beatles/McCartney fan ever since the Ed Sullivan show in Feb. 1964, I'm thrilled to see your bass and would love to actually play it.

However, I gotta say, I'd be kinda surprised if anyone here from this site bought it... but let's just hope I'm wrong!

    Will
(whose guitar heroes are John, Paul, George and Django)
Paul Cezanne: "I could paint for a thousand years without stopping and I would still feel as though I knew nothing."

Edgar Degas: "Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.... To draw, you must close your eyes and sing."

Georges Braque: "In art there is only one thing that counts: the bit that can’t be explained."

You're probably correct, but I'd rather deal with people from this forum than any other. Perhaps someone will know a bass player who would want a Hofner with deep up-right like sound.

Yes, the bass is still for sale. Interestingly, 3 days ago I got new parts and put on a new chrome tail piece and new knobs, as mine had become tarnished over time. These are orignal Hofner parts, but I did save the old ones.

I've sent you an email. Thanks for asking about it.
