soft cases, size/brands?

BluesBop HarryBluesBop Harry Mexico city, MexicoVirtuoso
Hi,
Does anyone know what size are those soft cases that come with Dupont Nomades and other gypsy guitars? favorite brands?
I recently sold my Nomade and I'm in bad need of a lighter case to carry my MDC60 (the Dupont hardcase is great but it's heavy and a drag to go to gigs with)
I think i've seen gator cases sold in local music stores...
Thanks for any help

    Enrique,

I've had a Profile Deluxe case for years, great case, excellent padding and loads of pockets. This is a newer model than mine:

I'm not sure what size would be right for a GJ guitar.

Soft case or Tough Bag ?
Most of us around here have gone for Tough Bags. Those are very thick and molded.
Reunion Blues and TKL seem to be good choices.
    I have a TKL 5215.

    Thanks for the replies!
This one is similar to the one i used to have:

I'm just not sure which model would fit my Dupont. I tried a classical case once and it was to small for my guitar but I suspect the dreadnought size would be too big...Plus gypsy guitars have a longer scale than almost any other.

Stephane showed me the case he and Roy use... "Wolfpack" I think the name was... He said they're only about $80 but I was really impressed by it. It's the nicest I've seen of the new category of "hardsoft" cases out there. The styrofoam (appeared) to be that harder more durable stuff... not like the squeaky-crumbly beer cooler styrofoam, but rather the dense flexible styrofoam that boogieboards are made of. For an 'around town' case - I have to say - assuming it fits the guitar (if it doesn't pressure the sides or put pressure on the top or bridge) I think it'd be a tough lightweight case to beat. It weighed nothing and seemed like it would protect the guitar from fairly decent impacts - though of course as a "hardsoft" case it wouldn't be crush resistant and so not a good case for the luggage compartment of a plane or tour-bus. But with that kind of rigidity and protection - it would be a good alternative to a soft gig bag.

I just googled it and this came up. It looks like the one... not 100% sure though.

    Thanks Bob,
My rhythm player has a Wolfpack, it's great but he got a dreadnought size and had to add extra padding... The case my ex-Nomade came with was almost the same but needed no padding and was just the right size. Since I sold that Nomade and that case had to go too I need a replacement... I guess I might have to take my guitar to the store or cut a cardboard to it's shadow to check for fitting... Would a Hollow body case fit a Selmer style?

There's a thread on this here:

I've got a Tribal Planet gigbag that's great but a bit cumbersome. The Mono one looks like the way forward.

I have since bought a mono & it's more comfortable to wear the the tribal planet, but not that much more stream-lined. It is shorter though.. Less bending to get through doors n the like.

The mono discussed is the perfect fit for a selmer sized guitar.

    Hey Pink Gary,

Which size of the Mono Case did you get, the classical or dreadnaught?

Thanks Gary. Those look great but they are way more expensive than the Gators/ Wolfpack.
Wish I could afford one though...

Harry, you're gonna put a $3000 guitar in it , save up the extra fifty bucks or whatever it is. They (mono & tribal planet) have much better protection/padding & designs than the others. Well, the gator violin-styled case, would probably be as protective if you modified the inside to fit a selmer, but you might as well use a Hiscox for the weight of the thing.

i dunno, it might be just what you're after. I mean, i use mine for busking, so it has to open out flat, which excludes hard cases & those violin-styled cases. So i was looking for the best protection out of what's essentially still just a gig-bag. The Mono & Tribal Planet both live up to that. The Mono is more comfortable to wear, the Tribal Planet has got better storage facilities. I bought the Mono thinking it would be a bit smaller and therefore easier to take on the bus & train when going busking, but it's actually about the same size. It does sit lower on your back though, when wearing it like a rucksack, so the neck doesn't hit the top of door frames like the Tribal Planet one does.

JS, I got the classical size, it's a snug but perfect fit for a selmer sized guitar. A favino would be too big, it's that snug a fit.
