Hello all,
this is my first post, and I'm excited that it's about the Django Jamboree featuring Adrien Moignard, Ben Powell and Franglais here in Louisville. Please view the press release below. I'll be adding more information as things progress.
The important part is the FREE concert at Bellarmine University (thank you Bellarmine)
DJANGO JAMBOREE: 2011
Master Classes
FREE Concert
Sunday, November 13, 2011—Wyatt Hall,
Bellarmine University
Come enjoy and celebrate the phenomenal music in the style of the acknowledged master, Django Reinhardt, and also what’s happening now by new masters on the gypsy jazz scene. Classes from noon to five p.m., Free Concert in Wyatt Hall at 7:30 p.m., open jam session at The Bard’s Town after the concert.
Classes and Concert conducted by:
Guitarist Adrien Moignard –
Based in Paris, Moignard has been a serious guitarist since childhood. He is a longtime devotee of the music of Django Reinhardt and American jazz, and is one of the most sought-after guitarists on the contemporary Gypsy swing scene.
Violinist Ben Powell –
Django collaborator Stephane Grappelli’s influence on Powell’s’s playing is unmistakable, and performing in the Hotclub style is his personal celebration of the Grappelli/Reinhardt tradition—and his own contribution to the current worldwide revolution in Gypsy jazz.
Franglais of Brooklyn, NY
Franglais blends the rhythmic drive of gypsy jazz, the nostalgia of French chanson, and the distinct soul of American music.
Topics for workshops include:
• Gypsy Rest Stroke picking style
• La Pompe rhythm
• Jazz violin improvisation
• Guitar improvisation in the Gypsy Jazz vocabulary
