Mike - I think bassist Coleridge Goode is still alive. I'm sure some of the italians he played with in Rome are still alive, and there's probably a few more rhythm guitarists and whatnot who recorded with Django on occasion alive.
  • I saw her at Culver City with JJ. I spoke to her and was thrilled. She sang Don't Worry bout me once and said that was fun let's do it again and of course the band obliged. I told her it was even better the second time. I live close to the cemetery and may attend. I think someone should play gypsy jazz there if the family thinks its OK. Djangoshmango may attempt to do so. Call me if anyone else is going with the same idea. 310.963.3777

Rest in Peace, if any do attend, please tell her family there are people in Ireland who offer her family both their condolences, and respect, a sad loss.
    Please pass it on.

At age 12, she was booked with the Quintet of The Hot Club of France, which featured Django Reinhardt and Stephane GrappellI.
I think it is much more likely that she was 14 when she first performed with the Quntette in the second half of 1938.

After touring for three years and multiple recordings, war broke out. She and Grappelli returned to England, and were joined by a young pianist by the name of George Shearing.
Just two years touring with the Quintette I think and of course she and Grappelli were already in London when war broke out. It was Django who returned to France leaving all his possessions, including his guitar, behind him in the UK.
  • I attended the memorial yesterday at Forest Lawn. Friends and family made up the attendees. I may have been one of a few jazz fans and I did not see any other Djangophiles. The service was uplifting and included her recordings playing before and after. Ron Anthony and his gorgeous DA were there to play A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and I'll be Seeing You with singer, Cassie Miller. On the way out, her recording of Do Lord was playing. I have a few extra programs. I will post a jpg of it later.
