Advice regarding insuring my Dupont?

Hi folks, my insurance agent suggested I should insure my lovely Dupont separately as our policy doesn't cover instruments that are over $1K - any suggestions regarding what a 1995 MD-65 (I think that's the model #) should be insured for? It's the long-scale D hole with Brazilian back/sides, one repaired crack on the top, otherwise in gorgeous condition.

merci!

You can stipulate a full replacement value rather than a dollar amount and/or having to deal with depreciation. I have this kind rider on my son's upright bass. Costs me about $12/year.

Additionally, you can also stipulate that the instrument is insured where ever it is if you travel with it. Not just when its in your house.

  • The problem is it's kind of irreplaceable, so I guess I'd prefer to err on the high side, but I'll check with our agent to see what my options are, thanks. Oh, and yes, I do have it insured for travel as well - that's really a more likely scenario as far as it being damaged or stolen.

the amount of money it would take to go out and buy a replacement, either brand new or vintage.
That's what I was told by insurance agent when I was insuring my guitars/amps.
And I was surprised to find out how little it takes to get this piece of mind.
