oh, Cool-
I'll jump in; and try to refrain from mentioning previously mentioned though:
+1 for Patrick Bartley, +1 For Barry Harris (a huge influence on my thinking about music in general - going to miss him a lot) +1 for so many other - Lage, Frissell, Monk and so on!
top 3 jazz this week: Sonny Rollins (who is not already listed?), Kenny Barron, Freddie Greene (not just with Basie, but that too. . . )
top 3 other musics (frankly mostly last month, but still): Boyfriend, Looprat, Les Nubiens (bonus - Talib Kweli) - since no one has mentioned any hiphop/rap/modern rnb. . .
Comments
paul galbraith playing Bach- who was the first jazzman
john lewis/keith jarrett and alot of others have done bach covers; Galbraith's eight string guitar is worth a listen; and i listen to it all the time.
For sure:
Wes Montgomery, Jerry Garcia, Mark Knopfler, Huddie Ledbetter, Emmylou Harris, Louis Armstrong (<- him first)
