I found this Pat Concert via another Django fan. It's pretty killer. I love this version of Pat. I think he's way better in a live setting with limited production, jamming with friends. I never could totally get into the composition James but I get it here. Really absurdly beautiful playing.
make sure to check out that youtube link I just posted. The sound quality is not great but the playing is stellar and I think PM in a trio setting is a tiny bit closer to GJ than the Pat Metheny group or other stuff.
That tune James is cool, he talks about it in the Rick Beato interview. I've never tried to play it but I think it has some really wild changes.
<crawls out of hole he's been living in for however many years> Not surprised that they exist but don't think I've ever seen a 7-string classical guitar before. <crawls back in hole>
I'm getting headphones to check it out during morning coffee.
@billyshakes 7 string nylon guitars are common in Brazilian music. For example check out Yamandu Costa. I knew John is playing 7 string archtops but I've never seen him with a nylon guitar.
Interestingly I just texted with a friend 10 minutes ago who saw John Pizzarelli live last night. John considered a local builder in MD make him a 7 string archtop.
I made one. It's pretty nuts. But in general 7 string classicals are not uncommon (actually anything between 8 and 14 strings has been done. This is mine:

I've been listening to and enjoying the playlist everyone here put together. There is a lot of super beautiful music that he made or helped make.

I love this dude. This is an 11 string "Alto Guitar". It's sort of a lute guitar hybrid.
