What's your favorite amp for playing gypsy jazz? It doesn't have to be one that you're using right now (the one that got away?) and let's limit the answers to 2. I'll get it started:

Fender Blues Jr. (for gigs where I played lead & rhythm)

Roland 50watt Street Cube (for gigs where I only play rhythm).

Reminds me of this great story about Django's son, Lousson, borrowing a guitar and amp for a gig. I've cued it up to the 30 second anecdote, but the whole 5 min vid is worth the watch.

AER 60 for me, I use it (with a pedal) for electric jazz as well, never let's me down. I like my Blues Jnr too but prefer lightweight stuff. At some point I'd like to ditch the amp completely and just go through an amp sim pedal but haven't got there yet.

Of course the real answer should be - no amp at all, the acoustic sound always cuts through! Duved insists on this even at large concerts and he always sounds great.

AER 60 is what I usually use, otherwise have a blackface Princeton Reverb that breaks up real nice for that later Django tone. I also have a Deluxe Reverb reissue that that's like butter for playing hard bop, modal stuff or anything non-GJ when I use my 335 (which, now that I think about, has been collecting dust...need to get that going again).

    e: oops, broke OP's only 2 amp rule...derp

Fishman SA220 "column" amp (no extra bass cabinet). Not that the Fishman electronics are superior. For acoustic amplification, I just like that the column setup -- lots of little speakers -- doesn't produce a large "sound pressure" from a point source like an amp speaker cabinet. The volume is distributed around and is more relaxing to the audience, wherever they're seated. For our guitars, there's no need for the bass cabinet that's sometimes at the bottom of column amps.

    Boring answer, Aer 60.

But I also use a beefed up champ clone I built. 12 Watts!!

Vintage 47 VA-185 for me, I very much prefer tube amps when using a magnetic pickup

no amp. always go acoustic -- or don't go. 🏄‍♂️

If a house had to mic me, ok. (As if that happens a lot. lol) So one of those Audio-Technica lav mics through a Headway pre-amp box.

I have an AER Compact 60. Great amp, and has saved the day when the PA has had a fault.

I also have a little Roland AC33 which I have used for busking.

Interested in the Bose S1 Pro. The singer in my group has one but I've never tried the guitar through it. I will now!
