Fun Question Of The Month--June

MikeKMikeK Asheville, NCNew Altamira M-30 D-Cedar, Gitane DG-320 John Jorgensen

What strings are you using these days? I'll get it started:

For my GJ guitars--Argie 1510 MF's (loop end), bought in bulk from Michael here.

For my archtop--Thomastik-Infeld BeBop 13's (round wound).

Just now trying LENZNER FISOMA GYPSY JAZZ STRINGS - LIGHT (11-47) F2000 L, with a 10 instead of their 11 string.

(That set tracks Argie 010s mostly, except for their 11 string.)

Roughly the same tension as Argie lights, but hex cores.

I've been primarily Argie 11s but last weekend I threw a set of 10s on my Altamira...and dang, I'm really loving how they feel and sound. Have a few sets so I might experiment on some of my "nicer" Django boxes too.

I've also been changing other things lately too...maybe going through a GJ midlife crisis?? But yeah, after playing on the BlueChip picks for the past 6+ weeks or so I've been playing on a Gator Jazz III and it's kinda flooring me how much tone it's giving - I used to use regular Jazz IIIs before switching to rest stroke so pretty familiar with the shape but now I'm using the shoulders like with a regular Gator.

    (apologies for the thread drift)

@pdg any comments on what you think of the Lenzners so far? Tbh, I've never even heard of that brand lol

Argie 10s (loop end) for gypsy guitar.

Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze 11-52 for western guitar.

So far, I like the Lenzners. We'll see. They're not the silk&steel ones, just regular silver-plated copper wound. The hex cores to my mind have more "spring" than the (round core) Argie 10s, even though the tension is about the same. Other hex-core brands have too much tension. But I didn't want the 11 first string (I'm more used to the Argie 10s), so I swapped that out.

    Argentine 10s ball ends.

I tried the Gallis and thought they were ok but dead.

I use EB slinky 10s on pretty much all my electric guitars except I have one guitar in open C and I use a strong joy Joey Landreth set (of note: I don't know how to play it).

I have a p bass with labella flats and a j bass with LaBella Ian super polished strings (which are awesome if you have no callouses).

I like Hannebach nylon strings but just put a set of Labella professional strings on a 7 string classical I made and they are really impressive and crazy cheap.

Argie 10s, but recently I swapped the E string for an 11 and I’m loving that setup. I think I’ve commented on this before, but the B string on my guitar sounds amazing, but the E string has been a little weak by comparison. This setup has evened things out a bit.

On my Martin I really like the Tony Rice monel set.

Love my '08 Holo petite bouche with 10 gauge and an 11 on high E.

My '04 Dell Arte Favino is fine with 11 gauge Daddario.

My 94/95 Gitane D500 years back sounded fine with the Lenzner GJ 12 gauge set to increase the string tension on the D hole to prevent loose playability and increase dynamic tight attack.

Argentine 10s and 11s, depending on the guitar.

For my two acoustic fretless basses, I used black nylon tape wound Rotosound RS88 - they're amazing!!!!

You know I'm a lone Optima strings guy. However recently something spurred me to get John Pearse, 10s, from Michael and love them. For my Martin and electrics it's whatever.
