Hi folks,

Making more room over here for something new so another one has to go.

Selling this fantastic Stringphonic FV Advanced I got from Harry in Japan.

Big Favino sound, with lots of volume — even when outdoors. (I had a great time bringing it to DIJ.)

Nickel Schaller tuners, spruce top, three part Favino-style maple neck, Santos rosewood (laminated as per Favino) back and sides, bigger body, clear static-held pickguard, very good light polyfoam case...

Currently shimmed up a touch because I like high action, but sounds just fine and is good at its normal level.

A couple extremely minor tiny dings I had to hunt for to photograph, but otherwise excellent condition.

lmk if any q's...

Asking $2,000 even plus shipping.

Does it have the typical stringphonic neck or is the favino a bit different neck shape than their other guitars?

I'm not sure what typical is, but it's on the beefier traditional side? A D shape I'd say.

    44.5mm width at nut

57.3 mm width at 14th fret (body)

23.5 mm thickness just above 1st fret

26.8 mm thickness just above 10th fret.

Measurements taken with vernier calipers. (For thickness I measured with a 4mm allen key to clear string height from fretboard and then subtracted 4mm for the measurement.)

I had a chance to hear it at DIJ and it is a nice sounding guitar. I’ll be curious to what you pick up.

Thanks Scoredog! I'll give you a hint, it's cousins with your guitar and its S/N is CB #110. More soon...

Was talking with another forum member how challenging it is to not be able to try guitars...and how it can be tough to even use words to describe what they're like. In that vein, I tried to just dump my *subjective* feelings about this one, the things I like and the things that make me fine with selling it. (Why I'm selling is a diff reason, because of my commission and I can't keep all the guitars.)

Anyway, I figured I'd do this because I'd always love more info when I see guitars posted. Not even because I'm trying to buy anything, but because it's interesting to hear honest opinions/experiences of instruments. Because we can't be practicing all the time, can we now...

    What I like:

    • It has the Favino sound at a not-Favino price or with vintage baggage. More quacky with the nasal mids. It’s obviously not a Favino, but Harry at Stringphonic had the luthiers copy a 1961 Favino in his design and they stayed very faithful.
    • The wood looks incredible. A visually striking guitar thanks to the Santos Rosewood and the double-striped maple neck. Love the nitro finish and the binding, rosette, and purfling is really nice. The QC is incredible. The Stringphonic and Japanese craftsmanship rumors are true.
    • The traditional-sized chunky-ish neck. Pro for some, con for others. If I'm doing buying the ticket for this scene, I want the ride to include the appropriate neck.
    • It’s loud. I took it to Django in June and it projects very well and is confidence-inspiring in jams with multiple guitars making lots of noise. It was cool to hear Sam and Gwen play it too.
    • It’s very easy to mic. With an AT lav mike, I found that the mid-range makes a fuller lead tone than my Selmer copy did. If a Selmer can sound tinny miked, this sounds like the Selmer sounded, unmiked. (A better sound person than I would make it sound like a Favino.)

    What I like less:

    • The Favino sound. I’ve decided I’m looking for a very specific Selmery sound. I love the volume and beefy mids, but I personally wanted more highs if I'm going to be disciplined and only have 2 ****.
    • Favino attack: It has a normal linear-attack of non-pliage guitars. Hit harder and it sounds louder as hard as I can make it go. A pro for some maybe, but I like the weirdness of faithful Selmer copies where it doesn't sound louder if you hit it as hard as you can.
    • The top is tinted more than I personally like. True to pics, but I like a lighter-colored top visually.
    • I don’t have a good reason for it, but I don’t love the look of Schaller tuners
    • I think I like the look 15-3/4" body more than this larger 16-1/4". I don't think I noticed the feel though?
