Mazaud guitar

Hi everyone,

I’m surprised to see a Mazaud guitar for sale on Djangobooks for so long. It’s top-notch, even if the sound is somewhat suggestive. I’m wondering why people don’t rush to buy it like when a Holo drops, at twice the price!

Wow, I hadn’t even realized there was one for sale. I haven’t been in the market so I haven’t been actively checking, but there was a point that I absolutely would have snatched that up!

I'm curious about where the neck joins the body. What is happening there, removable, reinforced, adjustment?

    Merci,

    John

It just looks like a normal strap button to me.

Because Bob rarely makes guitars and sells them exclusively through djangobooks.

Just to be clear, there’s no misunderstanding on my side. It’s just that it’s equally rare with A. Mazaud. I thought it would sell really quickly too.

In my experience it is hard AF to sell gypsy guitars. Mine or other people's. The market is insanely soft and good luthier made instruments go for the price of a low end Martin.

At this point will make a Selmer if someone wants to pay for one, and I'm going to make a few more for myself because I think I can get closer to my ideal of perfection (for me) but I'm going to move towards other types of instruments. Classical players think not too much of paying 10k for a good instrument and they go up from there but even a Holo doesn't get to that price. Ultimately the market doesn't support luthiers in this genre.

It's not equally rare - you can buy guitars direct from Alain, and he usually has them for sale at Samois. He makes great guitars, but Paul is right, gypsy guitars are always a tough sale. The difference with Bob is a mixture of hype and scarcity - he makes very good guitars, but not many, and this is the only place you can buy them, which is why they always get snapped up as soon as they appear. But I do agree, there are many excellent luthiers out there, and the Mazaud is probably as good as a Holo at a cheaper price, so I hope someone gets inspired by this thread to buy it.

Even a Holo can be a tough sell right now. Therhythmman recently had a fair priced Holo D-hole on the market for 1-2 months before it sold.

I used to own that 2017 Holo D hole, beautiful axe with great tone/projection but I couldn't get past the fact it was 12 frets with a "chunky" neck...the latter of which usually doesn't bother me but in conjunction with 12 frets, was a bit limiting (or at least for playing single line, fantastic guitar for rhythm only); ironically, an actual Macc D Hole from the early 30s (that I've been fortunate enough to play on) has a D profile neck but somehow feels a lot more contemporary despite being nearly 100 years old, way more clearance at the neck joint to reach the upper register as well.

Anyway, all of that to say I'm not surprised that it got sold again and won't be if it shows up on reverb again...almost seemed like a 1 off experiment from Bob before he made the 2018 D hole and 2023 D holes that Michael still has listed under previously sold (also, if anyone who owns any of the later Holo D holes happens to be reading this and is ever looking to sell, please hmu!!!)

@lucky nailed it regarding the Holo Grail. A friend's Mazaud (oval hole) has the nicest overtones I heard on any acoustic guitar. They're fantastic guitars (as is Holo and many others).
