For the price of a cheap lunch, you can have a whole year subscription to a tool that does everything you want to practice and play in this genre, in your pocket.

Download it for free and listen and work with the 5 free included tunes. These are not computer generated sounds (iReal), or samples (Band in Box), but actual recorded instruments and arrangements tailored to each tune. (Bluetooth it through a good speaker and you’ll hear the difference.) Plus, you’ll get access to the Discord for this app with explanations, demonstrations, discussions, and faqs on the use of the app and on all things gypsy jazz with players from around the world, guided and moderated by a top shelf player and instructor who created the app.

It's a good app, and CVH is still adding features to it.

I’ve been using it for about a week now and it’s had a huge positive impact. It’s just so convenient that I’m practicing with backing tracks much more. Previously I was using a metronome to work on building speed, and working on learning some arrangements, but I never would have been able to play any of this up to speed in a jam. I quickly found some holes in my practice and this has helped close them. Highly recommend buying the lifetime license while it’s still available.

The garble comes from time-stretching one recording. Two ways around it: record the backing at several tempos and snap to the closest (the sample route), or synthesize the pompe so it's generated at whatever tempo you pick: no stretch, no garble.

Since I've a lot to catch up on gypsy jazz and quite a beginner in la pompe I've for now implemented a synth with a bass on haute-gitanerie. It uses guitar samples, not real gypsy voicings yet 😅.

Fun problem to chew on! And honestly it's extra motivation to go record a proper sound.
