Thanks and sorry for beating a horse dead to you but very much alive to me... Anybody else want to chime in?
Hah, sorry, I didn't mean to try to shout you down, it is just that the same question keeps coming up and going round in the same circle with same agree/disagree ratio such that it always comes back to a matter of personal taste. Most of what is available in the $1,000 range should be a good starting point but all will have both admirers and detractors and the one thing I can guarantee is that you will be in much the same position in a week or two (or possibly a little more confused). But yeah, to save waiting two weeks you can search the previous threads now.

One other point that may help others help you; where are you based? There may be other players nearby who can let you try some guitars, or even better a store that stocks a wider range.

Thanks for putting things in perspective. I'm based near Lausanne, Switzerland. But I'll be in n Paris, France for Christmas. Hopefully I can visit a specialised music store there.

Thanks for the links and explanations. I am playing btw...
Great. That's the most important thing. I have been there, as have most people here and I think the advice that is being given is coming from a good place. Generally, everyone here wants to be helpful and wants to impart what they have learned to people just getting into the style.
There is a lot of information out there. From my experience, it's best to get guitars you have interest in into your hands once you understand how to get these guitars to sound good. Chasing after the elusive "best" guitar can be tricky and what Chris is saying is that it can be subjective. Good luck on your journey.

If you can, try some vintage guitars by DiMauro or similar. Even Patenottes have many fans. Many of these are in the price range you’re looking at.

When you are in Paris, go to visit Guitare Village. You can take a train northbound from Gare du Nord to Domont 95330. The shop is closed Sunday and Monday.

Plus one for the Patenottes. I have a 256 that I really like. Total value for a luthier made guitar.

The Aiersi HAS to be good - it says it's a SEMLER Django Gypsy Jazz guitar. Hits all the bases. LOL

I know nothing about APC except that they are also made in China. I have seen them advertised online but have never heard one played. You get what you pay for and if there is a criticism on a Youtube test then at least you have been warned. The good news is at least that one is in your country, is the shop listed near enough to go take a look?
