What is sad is that Clint had a video out on REH called Mastering Jazz Licks that was never released on DVD and apparently never will unfortunately. jim in Maine
  • Something to keep,in mind smthat electric guitar is quite a different beast fro acoustic. The right hand muting techniques are very necessary but anathema for GJ

In rhythm my right hand is anchored at the elbow on the lower bout top. It's all wrist roll for me no up and down except on slow tunes

For lead my fingernail tips just brush the back of the guitar fairmbitmof the time. I suspect ISPs a reference thing s I don't usually look at my fingers when I play.

The second picture down contradicts my wrist rule, but I don't read french so I'm not sure whats it's saying there

I think it says something like "In jazz playing the forearm rests on the body of the guitar" so it doesn't contradict the wrist rule.

What amazed me when I saw Bireli Lagrene live was how easily he was able to move between his L5 and his gypsy guitar....... He basically always kept the same floating right hand position. Genius of a player along with Stochelo and everybody else in their league! jim in Maine

I also really like the Rosenberg Academy clips that always have an inset picture that focuses on his right-hand.

Edit: And the Gonzalo/Chang clips too. He lifts his thumb off of the pick a lot between strokes.

What is Gonzalo doing with his right hand thumb at 0:13, 0:19, 0:39... etc. It looks like his thumb is so free that it literally lifts off the pick. It seems like such a paradox to execute rest strokes with such power and finesse and yet the pick is held so lightly that it too appears to float times. I've noticed this on one of Romane's DVDs as well. Perhaps there are other players too.

Thanks in advance for any comments on what that's about, how it adds to the swing, how to develop it.

nice .. clint strong is sounding very good on the electric but i fear that in an acoustic gypsy jazz djam he might be sounding more like clint weak .. you just can't get the gypsy sound and the power without the broken wrist !

I thought this screenshot of Joscho's right hand was interesting. Does anyone else find the back of their right hand pinky going this far behind the strings? I tend to brush the back of my pinky against the body of the guitar, but I was a little taken aback by how far behind the strings his pinky goes.
