I do that with my pinky on occasion as well, usually only when I'm trying to execute something with a fair amount of speed and only on the 5th and 6th strings. I don't do it consistently though, it just happens sometimes. I actually try not to do it because in my mind I keep thinking it's poor form but I guess if Joscho does it maybe it isn't such a bad thing.

From another video that just got posted. I used to curle up my pinky like that but have changed it to where my knuckles lightly rest on top of strings.

  • Interesting vids....BUT...he is using the anchored wrist alternate picking style of playing electric guitar.

Very different from the rest stroke style of picking which is in some degree part of authentic GJ phrasing.

What anyone chooses to do is up to them.

@Jazzaferri, actually the video I pulled from is his new solo on j'attendrai on dizzy fingers website and he is using gypsy rest stroke picking.

Maybe Jay is referring to Clint Strong videos.
Joscho is definitely a rest stroke picker with a dash of alternate picking thrown in here and there.

@buco, yeah that would make sense. I didn't really read the older part of this thread, I just wanted to find an old thread that was related so as to not start a whole new one.
