I've been really digging the Blue Yeti USB mic intro Garage band for recording simple backing rhythm tracks and recording my solos over top.
I'd been goofing around with recording a track on my phone, and then exporting that file, and then recording myself playing along with my stereo. It's so much easier and cleaner to just multitrack with headphones.
Having used outboard mics, interfaces, and more complex, full-function recording programs, I was never able to get decent results. Just too many variables. This was 5-10 years ago.
The basic presets in Garage band sound just fine for these purposes, and the combo of a USB mic and such a simple program makes for a solution that just works. All the time. Every time. Exporting of mp3s is simple.
Thanks for the input, Jonathan. I've got quite a bit of stuff now, to give some options on live sound. Recording is down the pike, now, but appreciate the input for consideration.
