Bag for sound support stuff - various?

PassacagliaPassacaglia Madison, WI✭✭✭✭
Cables, pre-amp/DI, mics and pickups of different sorts, miscellany - anyone have a bag they like to use to conveniently carry stuff? Most of the mic bags I've looked at are based on standard-sized mics, not contact mics, lavaliers, etc. I have two full-sized mics, an instrument and vocal, but the rest I'd just like to keep in a cushioned environment for travel.

I could make my own thing, just wondering if you GJers with various sound support setups have a good bag you use.

Thanks,

Paul

    Hi Paul,

I just use some thick canvas duffels. I put the cables in one and the mics/etc. in another.

They aren't padded though (which would be nice) but the mics all have their own little padded bags/cases.

Thanks Bones, I'm probably being too precious. My pal (Chris R. of Caravan) has a dedicated mic bag, but then he almost always gets away with using a true mic, his AKG. With all the flavors I have, was just wondering what people who also have various input types use.

  • I use a suitcase with folding handle and wheels. Mics in foam and then in freezer bags. cables in large freezer bags mixer in towel or foam or whatever I have...funny how some things get legs and wander....mixer in first, then pre if needed and mics and then cables. all the bags help with padding and ideally some bubble wrap to make sure things dont move around too much.I havent figured out stands yet. Perhaps a nice light box that would hold them.

Funny you post this, Jay, my luthier friend does basically what you do - a suitcase converted to this need. I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow. I have a monstrous, ugly, old suitcase that just found its way out of mothball, I think.....!

    Thanks guys.

I have a golf-shoe bag that's like a little duffle bag. Fits all my cables, DI, mic, etc easily.

Tele, and you don't worry about the stuff sort of banging into each other? I only ask as that's my fear with all this stuff being put together without cushioning....pretty cool, I think, to have stuff going in cutout foam in a suitcase or something like that. I'm probably overthinking this....wouldn't be the first time.

A suitcase works very well and there isn't much movement of gear if your stuff fills the suitcase. I do use bubble wrap around my vocal mic inside the original cloth bag and keep my Zoom pedal in the original box. Also have a mini guitar stand, power strip extension, glass slide in a pill bottle, etc. This carry solution if for my country pop/rock music! For my GJ playing, I use a shoulder bag with lots of pockets.
  • The nice thing about my suitacse is there are pockets inside and outside where I can put smaller stuff so it doesnt rattle around. Mxls go in pockets on inside. Flashlight, multitool go in outside pocket. Cables go in netted area under top, my new tush cush will fit nicely in and help keep stuff from bouncing around.

If you guys are using a suitcase to carry your gear, you should consider getting an old vintage one with tweed covering and stripes. They would look cool and probably work pretty well. Thrift stores sometimes have some pretty amazing ones. They're just like vintage Fender, Valco, or Gibson amps. They even used to call the tweed they used "luggage linen".
    Swang on,
  • If ai want to use vintage I have an old LeAther one from the 1920's that would ceraily fit the bill. Even got the origianl shipping co sticker from when my family came to Canada

No wheels though   how they carry such a thing?? Oh wait, I forgot, they ired people to carry them.
