I'm guessing you don't want to include Django in any on these?
Otherwise it's like Michael said, or at least there wouldn't be much room for other candidates.
To me, and I'm just listing what comes to mind at this moment, it's like this;
1. Joscho Stephane
2. Dorado Schmitt
3. Gonzalo Bergara
4. Olli Soikkeli
5. Angelo Debarre
6.
7. Bireli Lagrene
Ok, I don't think any of these top guys would wanna be known for most authentic Django sound so that's why I left it empty. And honestly no one even comes to mind. Who can even come close without being a total copy cat? I remember when I was watching "life after Django" and Tchavolo was telling Romane how when he heard him the first time he thought he was a good player but he sounded way too much like Django, and Romane was smiling and nodding as in "yup I'm guilty".
Or maybe you're after something completely different in this category and I'm missing the point?
One more thing, to me no one has ever surpassed soulfulness of Django's playing, I still enjoy the most by far when I'm listening to the master.
1. Joscho Stephan
2. Gonzalo Bergara
3. For me there are individual performances but no individual guitarist
4. Olli Soikelli
5. no clue
6. Fapy
7. I guess that question is kind of redundant - I think Joscho is innovative as a improviser, and Gonzalo as a composer.
Also, what would be the categories for the various styles of rhythm (not to hijack the thread but it's so important). May need to start a new thread for that one.

Of course, THE MASTER knocks it out of the park in all categories.
