I think he is going for that old time country blues beat up old guitar sound but maybe it would be more appropriate on an old National or a old funky acoustic or something but if he likes to play that stuff on a Gitane I guess what the heck...
my beef with that video is not the playing itself but the marketing behind it... I know some fairly prominent artists who tried to get artist discounts from D'Addario, but for some reason did not qualify...
and then they decide to release this video... from a marketing point of view, it just makes no freakin sense... it's as ridiculous as asking stochelo rosenberg to promote Yamaha Saxophones..
In my opinion, it's just a big marketing blunder from a major corporation. I'm really quite baffled...
This guy has made some money playing his guitars . I hear nothing succeeds like success.
If you play the "rings on your fingers bells on your toes" game it helps to get these sorts of endorsement deals.
Here's a man with a sense of fashion and a history of high profile gigs, so its a no brainer for a company.
The business is driven by young folks and adult beginners. So if your in marketing you look for some one that has a nice set of attributes , Earl has got all of that going on, and is "available" , willing to sit for the interview and the video.
So he gets some publicity and some guitars and strings and lunch , thats cool. Hey we got to see his rumpus room.
Its all good.

You may not be able to unhear... but Thanks to Thrip... here's a video that is awesome enough to help you heal.
Let the healing begin...
(Thanks Tim)
I just don't think that will happen for a lot of reasons.
