Looks like Bireli switches his technique when playing electric. I have not found it to be a problem. In playing bluegrass I have long used different pick attacks with the guitar and the mandolin (adopting the Chris Thile pick grip for the latter). If anything my electric dexterity has improved somewhat with picking up gypsy picking.
