Hello Andreas,
I'm enjoying the book and can do a passable version of China Boy, at least to reasonably un-schooled ears.
However,I find the little G7 chord shimmy at bars 45 to 48 an absolute bitch to play. I know it's just a question of practice but it would make me feel much better if someone else with the same technical stumbling block would post here.
Thanks.

I'm glad you like the book, thanks. That sliding G9-Ab9 chord sequence can be hard to play at first(at fast tempos it's difficult to keep it in time without ending up in backbeat). Try to play in time with just your left hand and when you feel comfortable with the hand movement and the timing, add the right hand.
I hope this will help
At the end of this video, I do the same kind of slide with a Gm6 chord.
The tempo is really fast but maybe you get some ideas from that..

Yes, it is a left hand problem in as much as the slide is slow and undecisive. Probably a question of building up my strength.
Fantastic playing, especially of the technique in question, but as for ideas, I'm afraid all it did was confirm the one that I'm a crap player.

I don't have Gypsy Fire yet (though I plan to soon!), but I think I know the sequence you mean-the video link above didn't open for me, but it sounds like something I've seen Stochelo do elsewhere. Andreas, would you mind sharing the general picking directions? I've been practicing what I think it is, but I'm wondering if I've got the right hand correct...right now I'm using an upstroke on the Ab and sort of sliding down before downstroking the G...
Best,
Jack.
The picking pattern is just a simple DUDUDUDU etc. but the difficult thing is to synchronize it with the sliding left hand. With the left hand, I slide in both directions. Try to make it swing in a medium tempo before you for you do it fast.
I hope this helps

Best,
Jack.
I ain't gonna live that long.
I am using 11-46 strings...
Maybe withe 10-45 it is easier to do the slide...
I think it requires lots of strenght and stamina to do it over 4 chords.
Andreas, which type of strings do you use when you do this sliding sequence ?
Maybe I'll need to do some body building to be able to play it.
