Hi guys,
Sonic- I personally use 011 sets but maybe it's easier to slide on 010's..try it:)
Charles- I use gypsy picking for Gypsy Jazz mixed with some alternate picking and sweeps for modern phrases and bop. On electric, I'm mostly doing alternate.
hi andreas this may seem like a silly question but..
I got the gypsy fire book and i love the solo's, they sound great.. I really want to learn them but am a bit daunted by the unorthodox picking patterns.. I use a lot of economy picking and alternate picking but the gypsy style is really throwing me! I definately want to get more into the gypsy picking at a later stage in my "musical growth" but i have so much to work on i cant really make time for it at the moment.. Basically my question is.. Is it worth learning these pieces (blue bossa/shine,etc.) using "normal" picking or would it be a waste of time? I love the phrasing so at least i could learn from that if nothing else?
PS. Just got your "solo" cd through the post.. good job! really enjoying it!
Thanks again
Charles
Hi,
I think that you can study the phrases and solos anyway to try to understand and learn the vocabulary of Django Reinhardt and the contemporary GJ guitarists.
Some of the phrases can be played without gypsy picking and restrokes but you will notice a difference with the accents, the sound and the volume when you add the gypsy picking.
Andreas,
China Boy, bar 42, the last four quavers on beats 3 and 4 are written D B C D in the book but on the disc it sounds like you're playing E D C# D.
Hi,
I don't have the cd here at the moment but it's supposed to be D,C,B,C according to the score.
Maybe I played something else, I have to check it out and get back to you when I have the cd avaliable.
Best Regards
Andreas
