There is a setting in your notification preferences that will enable email alerts. If it's already enabled, they may be going in your junk folder so take a look there.

you actually need to be in edit profile to see how your notification preference is set…
click on your user name then EDIT PROFILE

Got it sorted! Thanks Michael and pickitjohn. I thought I had set all that up before, but obviously, I did it wrong, and I couldn't find my way back in to edit.

The possibility to "mark all as viewed" seems to have disappeared from the main page. I miss it.

Sorry, I didn't think anyone was using Mark all Viewed tool. I replaced it with a member list (there was only room one the menu for one more option.) I guess I'll swap it back. thanks!

What happens sometimes is I'll check what's going on from the computer where I'm not signed in and when I go to the site from home I'll have a page full of yellow flags indicating new posts that I know I read. Mark all viewed takes care of that.
