Just wondering if its okay if I brush the strings with the top of my index finger when playing. Its in the area between the nail and the joint. Tim

    Does it effect your sound?
  • If you play lots and lots you will develop a nice big callous. If it is happenening while chording, not to worry. If while playing single string, you might want to have a look at hand position in a mirror and see if you can figure out why.

Or have an online session with any one of the teachers on this site.
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed

I concur Jazzaferri's comments, I often have a black mark on my index from chording but single string playing should be clean. If you have an iPad or what not, film your hand position when playing and check it out against players like Rosenberg or these 3

Gonzalo's solo hand position goes pretty far out (I don't naturally play at that angle but it is something to consider).
