Yeah, you could push thru, but this is also a good way to practice half rest strokes; as along as you are aware of what you're doing! Did you try doing exercise 1&2? If I were you I'd stick to those two exercises for two weeks doing them for 10 minutes each (so 20 minutes in total). See if you can double your speed on those.
