Yeah that'll work in a pinch as you said. In general I don't like to use anything that adds another link in the chain while on stage. Cause if things, and they always do eventually, do start crackling you wanna have as few pieces as possible to troubleshoot.
I'd be curios to see if it's really not possible to put a regular 1/4" in there. Use a small pot all the way to the one side and 1/4" jack on the other.

My Peche is now experiencing cable shorting issues. Anyone ever actually try one of these replacement cable solutions? Anyone ever try to repair the Peche cable itself?

Yes....making my own is actually a much better idea.
I guess another option is just to carry a little adapter plug so you can use a regular guitar lead in a pinch if necessary
