It was named a "one-nighter" in the forties. For exemple Harry Carney, Duke's baryton sax player, was sixteen when he was hired for a one-nighter and stayed in Duke's Orchestra until his death forty-seven years later...
Interesting review of the Lincoln, NB concert given by Duke and Django on Nov. 15, 1946. Published in the Lincoln Star. As usual, this Midwestern paper sent out a pretty journalist (Marcella Slajchert, see picture below) to attend the concert and interview Django.
Make sure you check out my blog, I've been posting a lot of press cuts in English lately! (and actually some in Dutch too, if there are any Dutch readers among you)
Some of them are fairly well known (Down Beat, etc.), some less.
There are some rare pictures too. Enjoy!
Hello Gatsby, you seem to find very interesting items in the US Press articles. I asked iy a few years ago, but I will try again : In september 1947 (1st or 3d?), Porfirio Rubirosa married Doris Duke in Paris.
At the wedding party Django, Hubert Rostaing and Yves Montand were present.
Is there by chance any photo of this event .

We also know that the fresh ties Django was looking at in Des Moines were Duke's, who had over 400 of them with him on tour...
One week later, the Lincoln Star also published this small article, mostly based on what the Time and Newsweek magazines wrote, but it's still worth reading.

EDIT: a lot of info about the venue and the concert here. Plus the picture of Django playing electric. https://gypsyjazzuk.wordpress.com/gypsy-jazz-uk-home/django-in-the-usa-canada-1946/django-in-lincoln-15th-nov-46/
