Maybe age is a factor too? Both Django and Iommi were young men, impatient to get back to playing. I believe that bass player who switched to play "lefty" was older. Another thing, I believe Jimi Hendrix was able to play a little on a guitar strung for a right handed person if he was handed one. I suddenly got the picture of an imaginary ambidextrous Django playing solos like a right handed player, then flipping the guitar over to play rhythm like Patrick Saussois, lefty with the strings upside down!
