I’ve been really drawn to tchavolo Schmitt’s playing lately. It’s incredible and I’d love to get others impressions.
He’s really distinct in the genre. So much bounce. Incredible chromatic runs and rhythmic fills mixed in to his solos.
ive tried learning more about him but he seems to really lay low. Also, there’s a relatively small amount of recordings that I’ve found Vs some others
I want to know more about this guy and maybe there’s more recordings out there that I’m just not aware of.

Found in a quick glance (and in french language), you may already know all of this:

Tchavolo Schmitt is great, not only as a soloist. His "pompe" is amazing, and his chord tremolos and other "embellishments" are far out; tremendous right hand!
Check out the movie "Swing". Tchavolo plays a big role in this and there are some great scenes featuring his playing
There are two other volumes and a host of individual topics on style.
Don't miss the Les Fils du Vent DVD if you have not already got it. The link here at Djangobooks says 'Out of stock' but there are many listings on ebay and Amazon.
Thanks for the suggestion for les fils du vent
found it on YouTube!

Jon Delaney, brilliant guitarist who sadly recently passed away, was influenced by Tchavalo which you can see and hear in his playing:
I've got 10 CDs with Tchavolo playing on them.
This website lists his recordings:
Oops, I just saw that Willie already shared the link
... not sure where it came from, but I have a fantastic recording of Tchavalo and Titi Bamberger "Die Konige Von Strassburg"... which appears to have been recorded in front of a group of friends, having fun! It's a great live recording. Perhaps someone can shed more light on the background?
Photo I took of Tchavalo at L'Espirit Manouche, 2003.
... first time I saw him...I was blown away seeing him live! ☺️☺️☺️
Ii was recorded September 15 & 16, 2001 with Tchavolo, Titi Bamberger on rhythm guitar & voice and Ottorino Freier playing rhythm and some soloing. I can't remember who on the Gypsy Jazz Yahoo group was selling it.
I can scan the covers later if you're interested.
