It was my lucky day yesterday.
There was an item about "Quartetto Italiano Enzo Gallo" on the radio and yes, there was a song too.
In the fiftees I visited the Holbeinhuis cafe-restaurant in Rotterdam very often just to hear this wonderful Italian quartet play.
I visited so often that the muscian came to know me by name and there grew a friendship among us.
Specialy with Renzo the drummer since he spoke some french and we could communicate.
You can say I was an early groupie of the band.
At the last evening of one of their stays in the Holbeinhuis I was allowed to play a couple of songs on the guitar with the band.
The room was loaded with patrons and Enzo and me changed jackets , mine being way too small for him and his much too large for me ( I was a boy of thirteen then).
Because I wasn't used to operate the pedals for the guitar he layed one of the Dutch cheeses he had received as a gift ( among lots of other presents) over the pedal to fix the sound level.
I then played with the band "True Love" a song from the movie that was a big hit at that time "High Society" with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly.
As I said before I considerd the band members as friends and always could come to their dressing room to chat.
It would be very nice to make contact again with Lorenzo(Renzo) does he have email or telephone?
If so could you send me an email at: h.v.d.vlist@hccnet.nl ?
Maybe if you see or phone him could you please ask if he remembers anything about the events I wrote here?
Well, it's been some time now since I posted my last message and it seems that this thread has died!
I never got any answer on this message and on the emails I've sent to Marco Pastorini who seemed to be so willing to inform us about the "Quartetto Enzo Gallo" and /or his grandfather Lorenzo Rampazzo.
Well maybe he is on holiday and I'll have to wait a bit more!
Anyway, I hope someone can help me out!
Mr. Van der Vilst, I for one have read your post, which I found fascinating. The problem you're having isn't a result of no one in general reading or taking the time to answer your post. It's a result of the ONE PERSON you're trying to reach (Marco Padova) not answering your post. He's only posted twice on these forums, which suggests he doesn't come 'round much, if at all. Have you tried sending him a pm, or emailing him through the forum? Just click on his user name and the screen will come up which will allow you to do so. And if you do reach him, please post back with the completion of your story!
Yes, I've sent Marco a PM and emails, but it seems he's not around any more.
The man that made the radio program (Roland Vonk from Rijnmond Radio) I've told about in my first post has read my post on this forum too and this week he has contacted me.
He told me that he has visited Renzo Reni ( Lorenzo Rampazzo) in Padova and that he was doing fine. He did an interview with Renzo and sent me the text!
He even sent some pictures of him that he's made during his interview.
As one reads the article one sees that Renzo had a complete life with a lot of sweet memories of his life as a musician.
I Have his address and telephone number and I certainly will contact him in the nearby future.
Him being 85 years old now........
These are pictures from Renzo Rampazzo made last year when a radio reporter from a Dutch radio channel visited Renzo in Padova.
I have his address and telephone number but he's never home, I've heard he's living with a girl-friend.
I hope Marco Pastorini will contact me and tell me the phone number Renzo can be reached under.
( Renzo is the one with the glasses)
It seems to be really hard to discover something about Enzo Gallo's bio, I must to look if I can find a book here in Rome.
