I had a Marshall 50W head....I wasn't playing big shows so 50W was enough for me. Probably only would play it at 3 or 4 unless I left the room with a long cable. Then I could turn it up a little more to get the tubes cooking. EVH's idea of a variac was super smart. You can put a big demand on the amp but still have a workable volume.
