It is a neat looking carved top. Not sure how it would sound. It is surely a lot more work. If there isn't a payoff in sound quality I can see how it didn't remain as an innovation.
Similarly, @Willie that "custom Record?" guitar you posted has an interesting shape on the top side. Sort of like a cello with that sharp corner. Again, that is a lot of extra wood work and I appreciate the craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing this thread.

Hi Willie, I was about to contribute to your post! I've just looked for photos of my Hofner but can't find any, sorry. The guitar currently lives at my parent's house so I can't take any pictures just now. It's a 1959 President Thin Blonde, number 137, so a nice low serial number. It belonged to my grandfather and is very precious to me. John Le Voi did a neck reset and got it playing superbly with a new bridge. It's a narrow fingerboard but a deep profile neck - a combo that funnily enough feels so good. I just love heavily figured back and sides woods, and the Hofner doesn't disappoint with its beautiful flamed maple. It's not the best sounding guitar unplugged, but the playability and the sound when plugged in make up for that. I have been tempted by a modern President, and may well still get one one day if the price is right. Those Musima Record guitars look wonderful - I'd love to buy one!!! Works of art. That one above with the polished steel scratch plate is a beauty.

Several listings on Reverb right now! Some with this German carve and some without. Looks like they went away from that at some point, perhaps in the 60s?

My 1958 Huttl:
@Buco Yes, many (south) eastern Europe tunes have found their way across the whole old Osman empire. A part of this klezmer piece for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8N-vT6hX9c has become partof this Rembetiko https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20NGp1fYfls.
@Jangle_Jamie Like this one?
