I'm not much of a gear guy, especially old gear. But in that top pic (which looks like Joseph is older than the other two), the guitar appears to have a pickup and some sort of knobs in the back. Anyone know what that is? Was it clamped onto the tailpiece or were those 2 knobs mounted into the top? Either way, they look pretty substantive and I would guess the weight would effect the resonance of the top?
("In various photographs and also in films, Reinhardt can be seen with a guitar that he is believed to have built himself, an electric "flattop" model with the external characteristics of a concert guitar.") https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Reinhardt

He made it himself.

"In the 1950s and 60s, Reinhardt played an unorthodox electric guitar of his own construction." https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Reinhardt

It might be a trick of the light but the frets look scalloped.
I was thinking the same thing!
That top photo looks like an arm rest of some sort, attached to the guitar, plus a split in the soundboard?
Yes those frets are definitely scalloped.
Scalloped or worn from years of gigs and practice?
Sorry Yngwie, your weren't the original after all.
Haha!
