I have about fifty albums - pretty much everything Pat Metheny has recorded - and I don't recognise this song. Great playing and a great concert. I'm guessing that's a very nice Favino he's playing. Mmmmmm

Nice suggestions Willie. The keyboard player who I jam with has asked me to play both Travels and James, so I have to try to work them out soon!
For me, there are great moments on many of Pat's albums. Standouts for me however are the albums Speaking Of Now, Secret Story and New Chautauqua. Speaking Of Now has a load of wonderful memorable songs. Secret Story is a beauty with full orchestra. New Chautauqua is just Pat with overdubs and it's personal to me as it reminds me of my time living in Melbourne.
also, this wonderful concert is a must watch. Imaginary Day Live. It's set in a winery, and it's just a beautiful concert. In fact, just mentioning this makes me want to watch my DVD tomorrow.
Been listening to the Offramp album. That one is a good way to get into his music, it's very nice.
One of the most beautiful jazz pieces ever written from my perspective, actually I am hard pressed to find one I like more.

I love the Fannou record - "The Carnaby Street" has become one of my fav's to play . . . . He's clearly got a lot of influences from outside the genre . . . including Metheny. One of my favorite tunes by Metheny and Lyle Mays https://youtu.be/cg0NGif5jZc?si=Uc2Imfj6fjJmeHF-&t=165 - Minuano 6/8 (I'd love someday to translate this to Djangoland . . . anyhow). There is some killer playing on Question and Answer, and I love the record with Scofield https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ke66yOH4hfg-vp2Tkdp5SYqDXwC9kiN9o "I can see your house from here". (the guitars sounds are a bit of a challenge - for me, but the playing is amazing).

I think Pat can be an aquired taste depending on where you start. But he's an absurd level virtuoso.
He's a bit like Miles...he's done a lot of different stuff and you might like one thing but not the other.

I think in the Rick Beato Pat interview he mentions this track. It shows him moving between a sort of straight jazz thing and Pat stuff in a beautiful way. The jerky rhythm thing at 2:50 ish is pretty great.
This album is a lot people's way in and I still think it's pretty fucking amazing. If I remember correctly each tune is based on a different interval, I might be wrong:

There's tons of other stuff. He made a psycho album with Ornette Coleman that I don't even know. Maybe I'll give it a shot again.
I don't hugely love the Metheny Group stuff but I can't say it isn't cool.

If you ever get a chance to see Pat live it's totally worth it. He works his ass off. I saw him play in a smallish room a year or so ago and he played something from almost every part of his career. He played the Picasso guitar, synth guitar, trio, solo, etc, etc. I was kind of annoyed at the ticket price but afterwards I was like...I get it. He brought out a small version of the Orkestrion thing. It was a crazy good show. I saw him recently here solo, I guess I didn't like it as much, less improv and jazz, more acoustic stuff. But it was still great.
Among other things, his stage sound is exceptional. I don't think anyone playing acoustic sounds better in a big room. He has amplification dialed in.
