I play alot of early folky/jazzy/Americana/soul stuff. And it has really become part of my sound since I've had my altimira. Myself and others who have heard me play for years feel like it gives things a much more personal/intimate and raw sound. I do love the sound of a martin, but everyone in my area plays straight bluegrass so that's all you hear, I definitely sound different but a familiar nostalgic element that the guitar has lended itself to perfectly.

I can see that working for you, especially on solo stuff. For me, in the various old-timey bands and contra dance bands that I played in while I was also playing gypsy jazz, the other people in those bands did not like the sound of my Favino, which actually was built to be a versatile guitar and had more bass than most Selmer type guitars. On recordings with that guitar, I didn't like it either. I just used my Martin or a Gibson I used to have. But for gypsy jazz, it was the best guitar I ever played.

Scot--do you still own the Favino that you mentioned here?

So I took it to my guitar tech today and we noticed that the bridge it came with definitely has less overtones but on the ends of the feet on the bridge they seem to be scooped out a little and farther in they meet with body flush, the new bridge he had made just sits completely flush all the way through but there is substantial amount of ringing and overtones, the action is perfect and plays like a dream but I'm not sure I can deal with the overtones being as loud if not louder than the picked note. Any ideas.

GJ bridges are supposed to have the ends scooped out a bit, not touching the top. Selmer probably figured it just made it easier to fit the bridges to the guitars.

Got any photos to compare? How are the string slots on both bridges?

To be honest I don't know what you're talking about when you're talking about overtones. What do you mean? Can you post a recording?

To second what Paul's saying, at this point it would be nice to hear an A/B comparison between the 503 and Altimira...hard to come up with more ideas without being able to hear some of the differences

For sure , I'll do some recordings with my zoom and try that tomorrow, it's kinda like all the strings are ringing really loud when ever I hit anything on the high e or b strings, like I'm hearing all the harmonics from every string at once..i just find it very distracting, I did try it with the krivo pickup and you can't seem to really hear any of the problems that I'm hearing when it's by itself

I don't know if you'll be able to hear the "reverb" from the (https://www.djangobooks.com/Item/saga_gitane_dg-255) or the lack of with the https://www.djangobooks.com/Item/saga-cigano-petite-bouche-GJ-10). My first GJ guitar was the Gitane DG-255 and it was a solid, beautiful instrument. There were lots of forum posts about overtones with the Gitane guitars. I currently own a Cigano GJ-10 and it has virtually no overtones whatsoever. I probably play the Cigano more than my Dupont MD 100, but it lives in it's case while the Cigano GJ-10 lives on a convenient guitar stand.
