Fun Question Of The Month--May

It seems like nearly all of the songs in the GJ repertoire have been recorded by great jazz singers at some point in time. Which leads me to ask, who are your favorite jazz singers? Please pick no more than 2 (maybe one male & one female?--not required) and let's make a fun rule where they have to have sung at least one song that's in our repertoire (that shouldn't be challenging). I'll get it started:

Nat King Cole & Billie Holiday.

I'll be following this thread cuz I think there are some stellar singers out there who I should know about but unfortunately don't. I just LOVE great singing. Often more than great guitar playing. For now, just gonna say Ella Fitzgerald...

    Ella is my favourite.

I absolutely love Tcha Limberger's singing too. I'm going to see him play/sing in a couple of weeks!!!!

An amazing thing I've heard Tcha do is sing a melody while simultaneously playing a harmony line to it on the violin.

That's hard. I could listen to Nagasaki and after you've gone all day.

But Billie moves me. And Satch.

Agreed with above. Nat King Cole is king above all. He and I have virtually the exact same jazz range, so i can always rely on those recordings for a good key to sing in.

Tons of great French singers, as well. Trenet, Aznavour, do I even need to say Piaf? 😉
