@Phil - Veronica's (self titled) record from a few years ago is an absolute killer (though it bends genre's a bit) well worth checking out!
Definitely love Nat King Cole. But, I would include Johnny Mercer. I like his phrasing and his laid back style.
A few other mentions might be the great album that Robin Nolan did with Randy Greer.
Also, I'm a sucker for Vivi Limberger singing on the Romani album.
There are those who sing, then there’s the fadista Carminho - a voz dela é um presente de Deus.
A late-comer to this party, I just remembered I have a soft spot for Paul Anka after his Rock Swings album. And of course Ella. When I was taking a straight ahead group jazz guitar class and I couldn't read music, I would always use Ella's recordings to learn the melody.
And let me drop a name of up and coming singer with a classic, golden years of vocal jazz kind of voice, Wyatt Michael
I love Rock Swings! Clever reimaginings from New Wave (Spandau Ballet, Cure, Pet Shop Boys) to Rock (Bon Jovi, Survivor, Van Halen) to Grunge (Nirvana, Soundgarden) to Pop (Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson) and more. It could absolutely be a train wreck but it really showcases the original songwriting with great swing arrangements. My kids even enjoy that one!
The arrangements are genius.
And Spandau Ballet was my guilty pleasure during my teens. I listened to them but wouldn't dare to admit it back then. As cheesy as the production was, I thought the songs were so well put together, just great songwriting.
