History buffs, can you help with these photos?

Regarding this person, Dennis belives this to be Daniel White, also a famed songwriter who was his dad's best friend.

He agrees about Jean's sister, Germaine.

The third guy is also known I think but can't remember his name...

This is getting confusing, but I just talked to Dennis and he said Daniel is in the middle so you could be right about Jean being on the left. He said he met Daniel in Paris when he was 15 and his dad took him to visit. It's just that the photo I found of Daniel looks very much like the guy on the left. That's what confuses me...

Difficult to be sure with the photos we have but I would say the pic of Daniel looks more like the guy on the left than the one in the centre in this comparison. I must confess I am not convinced about the man on the left being Jean Sablon.

Not very convinced by the Jean Sablon hypothesis myself neither...😁

Jean Sablon comparison. I would say no.

Dennis agreed that it could be that Daniel is on the left.

He came over yesterday and I helped him string up the guitar. He went to the store and they sold him phosphor bronze D'Addarios, lol, I told him to return it and come over. I didn't have Argies either, I've been using J. Pearse last few string changes but at least the gauge is correct and they're good strings really.

This guitar is something else. The top is even more beautiful in person. It has a magical light gloss, so pretty. The neck is especially pretty, just a gorgeous piece of wood. Interestingly it has kinda a soft V shape. It's a fat neck but it goes into a very gentle V shape in the middle. The heel is a traditional one, not the familiar flat heel.

Structurally, this guitar might've been made a few years ago when you look at it. Sure there are scratches but every single seem and glue joint is as solid as it can be. I've seen and played Selmers in person thanks to Michael Bauer when I lived in Chicago and he was still active in the scene. But this guitar makes me appreciate a lot more the craft that these guitars were made with. Well, the nut and a little wood piece that it's resting on fell out when we removed the old strings, but we'll glue that back it place. I was hoping strings will keep it in place but it didn't.

If this is the original Selmer case, this may be what inspired the cases that AJL makes. The neck section is very slim, very similar in shape to AJL case.

Selmer strings is a cherry on top, it doesn't get cooler than that. I wonder what they'd sound like??

When we strung it up, the action was just a touch too low and it was fretting out on several frets. But that's a much better problem to have than the opposite. The fretboard is straight as a mirror. I didn't have time to look at the neck relief or add some shims, which I had on hand. I had to run out for my class (wish I was able to cancel but it's at an elementary school...). So, more to come, here are some more pictures...

As a former pretty serious portrait photographer, I would say you really can't tell. Those people look very similar but photographs and facial expressions are super weird. As is comparing formal pictures to casual pictures.

    There's a lot of similarities.
