Cigano Mods

Hey everyone, these are the mods I've made to my Cigano this year. The humbucker is a kent armstrong, and the pickguard I got off of a mandolin. I'll post some audio sometime soon of the humbucker in action.

Sweet, sweet mods. I was just talking to a friend about putting a humbucker on my D-500. Your tone is nice... what strings are you using? Also what amp you runnin'?

    Cheers,

Hey, glad you dig it. Those are just regular ol' argies on there, which surprisingly respond well with the pickup. I was worried I'd have to lower the action, throw in some nickel strings, or some such nonsense, but luckily it works as is. And the amp is just a cheap 30 watt marshall combo, nothing special at all.

I had tried the Johnny Smith style mount on the fingerboard, but the string height was too low, so we had to get inventive... bent the brackets a little bit and glued them to the brace. Having the pickup that much lower really makes it the perfect level, not too hot, not too quiet. Goldilocks, I guess.

Good job! Some years ago I used a Rare Earth on a D 500... built two mini clips so that I could attach it to the brace (the one you glued the Kent Armstrong to). Worked fine but had some resonance problem (on the G note if I remember well). What's cool about Rare Earth is that it has a more acoustic tone than a normal humbucker plus it's shaped like a D hole and looks almost like it was designed special to suite the look of a Maccaferri...
