Lyricism more important than speed? Could you name some cd's where speed is the most important thing? Yes, Jimmy, Birèli, Stochelo, Angelo etc. (I assume you're more or less referring to them) can all play ridiculously fast, and they do at times, but listening to their music, I don't have the idea that I'm listening to a show off or 'shredding'. The beautiful thing is that they can play slow and fast, and be very lyrical in both. The solo's of these players are in my experience very lyrical, melodic, authentic, and enchanting.

I highly recommend "Mistral" - Pigalle 44 - where melody and lyricism abounds plenty!

    Thanks,

I've also been listening to Alfonso Ponticelli and swing gitane a lot of late and I think he has some pretty tasty phrases.
