RIP Drew. Drew and I started out together in '07 playing this music at his house, eventually forming the Petaluma Trio with Steve Shane on bass. He would often cook dinner for us and we would woodshed until we were were sweating, eat and then play some more. Going to the Hot Club of Marin jam was a staple. Drew was uncompromising in his quest to play this music we love. Getting to become friends with the performers we admire so much like Gonzalo, Stochelo, Nou'sche, Nonni, Ivan, Nick, John Jorgenson, Simone, Paul Gruen, Romane and Richard, Robin and of course Drew's roommate Kevin Nolan just to name a few was really valued by him. When artists would visit Djangofest Drew would invite them to stay at his home, take them fishing, throw a BBQ, show them the sights, a regular guy and a good man. His legacy to me was to encourage new players and to practice hard and not settle for being almost satisfied with my playing. Eclair de Lune invited me to join them in playing Samson Schmitt's La Vie in his memory. He lives on in music. He is missed by many people here in the Bay Area. Gone but not forgotten. - Randy Frank
I just want to add a post to mention how much he enjoyed his new guitar that he got from Michael here at Djangobooks, that he often mentioned learning a lot from Dennis who posted such a good tribute and that his current musical association with Troy Chapman from Billets-doux was really rewarding for him. The last time I spoke to him I told him how many people here in S.F. commented on his video with Richard Manetti and he really brightened! - Randy
