Hi everyone,
After getting back from Django in June 2011, I was looking for some sort of listing of ensembles or players in different areas of the country. I realize there are discussions for particular regions like, “GJ in NYC area”. What I don’t see anywhere online is a “listing” or “directory” of GJ ensembles or performers. This could be useful when you are looking for other people or groups, travelling to different regions, looking for someone for a gig, festival, a jam, etc.
So, I propose we start one here.
Here are some general guidelines that I think will keep this listing uncluttered and more useful:
1. Post only listings here, PLEASE. Keep other communications out of the listing discussion. Use other discussions or private messaging for that. I started another discussion to discuss the listing discussion if necessary. (OK, this is getting nuts….)
2. Please post one message for your ensemble or yourself if you play solo. To update the info you should be able to edit your post in the future.
3. A photo as part of your listing to show your group is OK.
I propose a general format that would keep the listings more consistent and hopefully more useful for everyone. The easiest way to use it would be to copy the whole format, paste it into your message, and then replace the parentheses parts with your info. Just cut any parenthesis part you choose to leave blank.
I started the listing with the trio we are starting in Saratoga Springs as an example.

I am seeking playing opportunities with gypsy swing bands. I know much of the Django repertoire and I'm a good sight reader and have good ears.
I have the gear and the car and I'm ready to play.

Alto, soprano and tenor sax, guitar.
As yet unnamed duet with Robert Dukharm a classical violinist, pianist and organist. He and I have been working together for several months. Fun working with someone who has marvellous technique and is just learning the language.
We have branched out to doing a few of Paganini's violin and guitar sonatas. Starting to work on improvisations on those. We will start gigging in January.
