Just got back from seeing the new movie Hugo. The film is set in 1930's Paris. Featured several times throughout the film is a band with a guitarist. To me, he looked like a young Jimmy Rosenberg. So I decided to investigate further and stayed for the ending credits. To my astonishment the character was listed as none other than Django Reinhardt as played by Swedish actor Emil Lager. However, while getting ready to leave I missed the rest of the credits. Does anyone know who plays guitar on the soundtrack?

IMDb is of no help. It does list the Django character, and the "Music Department" lists sixteen people, but none of them are listed as actual players (except the conductor). Guess the players don't count.

We'll probably go see the movie soon. If I can come up with an opinion (or the actual movie credits show the musicians) before someone else chimes in with the real goods, I'll post it.

My eyes lit up when I first saw the guitarist in the movie. Right away I noticed the Selmer style guitar (petite bouche with solid peghead to my recollection). I never suspected the character to be Django, because the music featured in the movie sounded more musette than gypsy jazz.

I searched through thousands of pictures on Google looking for a movie still of the band, but couldn't find one. The actor, Emil Lager, is actually a good guitarist. His Myspace page has samples of several of his country-blues songs. http://www.myspace.com/lageremil
