Caroline Pook from NYC, member of the Lower East Side Hot Club, really rips too!
Get in touch to jam if you're in the NYC area!

wonderful that you mention 14 year old, Daisy Castro.

she's a local talent here, my son went to school with her and we first heard Daisy play at school, years ago, when the violin looked so big in her small hands.. look at here now! GO DAISY!! We're going to catch her playing next week at a local orchard.

There's loads of them. You'll have to be more specific.

hmm , i was just thinking its a bit like 'jazz' in general, there are relatively few women in GJ.
i think of our local Gj jam session, there are very few women players. maybe 2 or 3 in the last few years.
There must be hundreds of violin players in Glasgow, male & female, why are so few interested in GJ & swing ?? is it something to do with jazz/GJ being seen as "macho" or "competitive" ?

Women don't like to improvise, that's my conclusion.

After teaching hundreds of people to play guitar, the females never show any interest in improvising or "lead guitar". The ones that are creative always want to play n sing their own songs. They're far more into harmonized chord families, secondary dominants, fingerpicking & other singer-songwriter techniques than the males who just want to pentatonic their way round the neck as fast as they can.

There are exceptions to this, but they are few & too far between.

yes, I read that Mlle. Monbet is/was a student of Didier Lockwood, but she now works, at times, with many of the big GJ guitar 'name'-players, and sounds mighty fine..... :D
