Baltimore is an amazing place and I loved there for 5 years. It's various problems (crime and climate) give me anxiety but I miss it a lot.
Will, how is it crossing the border in Buffalo, always no big deal? Just wondering if I could easily be going into Toronto frequently without any issues?
I've never had any issues at the border but don't do it very frequently.
Pro tip: Get a nexus pass.
I played a 4th of July gig on the Canadian side of the Falls, Sound guy didn’t make it through (no surprise there), Lighting guy went back to the Hotel after load in, couldn’t get back through for the show. Not much of a surprise there either. Hahah
Who planned that event? 🧐
Hhmmm...good question, I don't know who was booking him or managing him at that time. I think it was probably in house at that point in his career. I've had a little experience road managing & getting a band through at a point of entry with work permits and docs not showing up where they were supposed to. Anyway, not much to do with the OP, just some fun war stories.😀
Where are you located?
Me? About 20 minutes East of Downtown Nashville.
Paul, I have dual citizenship and NEXUS so no problem for me.
True story- by a series of unfortunate events I was briefly president of my local AFM circa 2008-2010.
The big issue at that time was that the US customs were deliberately making it difficult for Canadians to do gigs in the US—- like the musician had to provide them a list in January of every US gig they were going to be playing all year long!
Meanwhile on the Canadian side of the border, the welcome mat was out for US musicians to play in Canada no questions asked…
Now I don’t know if this is still the case or not, maybe some of our Buffalo contingent have had experiences with that…?
Anyway, truth is that with the Canadian dollar in the sub-70 cent range, I don’t imagine that playing gigs in Canada is going to be much of a thing for you.
But if you’ve just taking your guitar up to Toronto to participate in a jam session, I can’t imagine Canadian border guards having any problem with that…

I work for several hospitals in Buffalo: Buffalo General, Erie County Medical Center, the VA, Oshei Children's Hospital, Millard Fillmore Suburban, and DeGraff Memorial. I'll ask around to see if there are any openings for your sub-specialization.
