I searched with many keywords: by dates, instruments names, with jazz, etc... it's a pretty long list of words to be tried. In some databases the upper letter is distinguished django gives no result and Django does...
If I give you my keywords list you will think I am mad... 8)
Ellington is present in France in April 1950, he arrives by boat on the liner "Ile de France" at Le Havre Harbourg and plays in paris from APril 12 to April 16 leaving France for Belgium on April 19.
here's a photo of him and Boris Vian in Paris - I guess the date is wrong (better 1950)
Great! At least more info is appearing, great, great, great!
Spatzo, you mentioned the Stars in your eyes footage could be with a Wales born technician? It's possible it's not even archived, just owned by a private person, much like the Jazz Hot footage.
Let's hope Django wasn't in Rome while Ellington was in France.
Hi Richard! well I just heard that a wales born technician was said to have carried out a couple of reels on Django but there was no info on the kind of footage. Never heard again anything on this.
I'm afraid that Ellington came again in France only in 1958 but I still search confirmation of this. Of course it was too late for us.
If Django was in Rome in March 1950 and Ellington arrived by boat the problem is solved and we have lost a potential footage.
From memory, it was not a French airport that Django was supposed to have met Ellington but Alain should remember as he got the letter claiming such a meeting took placed and was photographed or filmed. I can't remember the details as my mind has become befuddled with such claims over the years. :? I probably have it on file somewhere but as you are speaking to Alain, it would be simpler to ask him.
I hope it was Orly in France because I spent hours searching for that (without any result) but you are right I will simply ask him tomorrow
On another side I think that Le Bourget Airport was better as he lived there in a gypsy camp from 1949 and probably until 1951 when he goes to Samois. But I think Orly airport was used from 1950 for the flights to/from America ( I have somewhere the exact date).
The question is already in the huge TBD list for tomorrow.

If, however, you search "Stars In Your Eyes Django", you get three hits including some news on the England cricket match. :?

A good friend of mine reminds me of another lost footage: Django welcoming Ellington when descending the airplane in Orly Airport in 1952...
No mentions of Duke Ellington in the passengers lists.
According to the fact that as when dealing with trains an arrival can masquerate another arrival I'm afraid I will have to watch the whole... :?
I think I will have to look when Ellington arrived in Paris (month -year) before watching otherwise it will be pretty hard
