I just did a video testing my brand new Eimers Antique through the Stimer. The amp is a simple Roland Cube because that's all I've got for the time being. However, I was able to get a pretty good sound I think. Nothing like the warmth of a real tube amp of course.
So it is possible to get a half decent sound with a mediocre amp, at least satisfactory for practice at home IMO.
