What is truly important.....is not knowing the name of some harmonic process...but hearing it...and that involves some sort of educational training, formal or informal....whether sitting at someones knee so to speak or going to school or auto-didactically.
I don't think its possible to make sense with music until one really understands the harmonic interaction.
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed
My friends always told me that getting to deep into music theory would kill the 'spirit' of the music. Then I remember Pat Metheny saying that believing that was a cliché.
Now I have the patience that eluded me, I guess when I was more ADHD or whatever they call low attention span these days. I have an intense desire to see music from this intellectual framework. I just started reading music which is a huge jump for me. I picked up a little keyboard in the hopes that it will help me to mine that theory a bit more and with chord building/voices that I can take back to the guitar.
Still, I have to admit that I found the analysis of that clip of music quite impressive by the formites here, a.k.a. I am inspired!

And sometimes... even if you CAN hear it...
Edgar Degas: "Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.... To draw, you must close your eyes and sing."
Georges Braque: "In art there is only one thing that counts: the bit that can’t be explained."
