Any idea if Tony Gatlif would have wanted this project? He has covered so many Romani topics (including Nazi persecution).

That solo from the clip is not from 1947 but 1940. He liked it so much that he learned again to play it live in 1943
  • but not with a resistance femme du guerre. Loosely based on a true story. His trip to the border is a great true and was likely very tense and fearful much of the time with some comic moments to relieve the intensity.

Indeed it was. I did not think anyone would notice. Here is the original. Unlike the 1947 version, this solo is never copied yet I think it is great:-

For those interested, Django's life and times in Thonon-les-Bains is well-documented in a long article published some years ago in a regional history journal. I will try to put together a sort of translation of this but it will take time as it's not easy French. Or maybe one of our francophone members wants to take this on...
    None
  • Perhaps there is some way a collaborative process could be set in place. Some takes a paragraph and does that. then another and so on.

I am not computer literate but between my wife and I we could help a little.

How disapointed I am! Teddy Dupont is an impostor: he cant make the difference between two different Django recordings! A myth has fallen! :)

Regarding the article, you can read it here

I could help to translate some parts if you want.

I quite like having once been a myth.

The other big failing of the film which destroys any semblence of authenticity is that it is in colour. All the photos from 1943 clearly show Django was only ever in black and white.

Best of all, it seems to me that the (weak) sound of the imitation of Django's solos is not perfectly synchronized with the image of the moving fingers at least in the footage I have seen

If the colour wasn't a giveaway, I'm also pretty sure Adrien Moignard wasn't alive in 1943...major plot hole!? :)
