Got Me A Krivo Micro Manouche Pickup

Greetings, some random, honest(I think) thoughts on the pickup here. Y’all are way more seasoned, all things GJ people than me for sure so you may want to skip! First of all, it got here super quick with Priority Mail, ordered Monday, got to Nashville on Wednesday. That’s awesome, thank you Michael!

It’s beautiful looking, almost like a piece of jewelry. It’s so thin and I’ve got the action down there, so no issues there. It’s a Mag and I’m familiar with them having pursued plugged in acoustic tone forever, probably like the rest of us. I’ve got a Sunrise, have had a couple of Baggs, Fishmans with & without Mic blend, Duncan Mag Mic, Mojotone. Granted none in GJ guitars but same DNA basically. It’s a Mag, nice sounding one though.

I hate the cable being permanently attached to the pickup but I knew that going in. If I hang on to it I may cut it shorter & put a 1/4” female on it to tape to the side of the guitar or something because this is an accident waiting to happen. I’m only looking to play it live on a couple of tunes and not being GJ guy I’ll be standing with a band so I’m sure I’ll step on the cable at some point.

I’m still experimenting with the position. The putty is cool, works well. Whoever mentioned putting a piece on the extended fretboard part on the treble side of the D Hole to help hold it there, brilliant. I think I like it pushed all the way towards the neck. I don’t notice a whole lot of difference in sound having it up there or further back by the bridge, some maybe. It really makes me notice how close to the sound hole I pick and probably shouldn’t for GJ since you want to be back right? Pushed up there keeps it further away from my picking hand, it feels more like there’s nothing puttied on the top of your guitar this way, although covering the D Hole some.

So I dunno…kinda cool. I’m able to plug it in. I have a pretty sweet little acoustic pedalboard so that can be kinda fun although un GJ-like! Thanks for listening...Decaff!

Well, I'll try and post something later. So far I've gone Direct and also into a pedalboard/Fishman Loudbox Artist. I guess I'll try a guitar amp later.

Okay, here we go for better or for worse.

Some's through a Tweed Deluxe Clone and some's through a Fishman Loudbox Artist. So yeah, I like it through a guitar amp, I hadn't really considered that.

Hey thanks Buco, I really hadn't considered playing it through an electric guitar amp but I kinda like that, it's warmer sounding for sure. I think the D Hole brings the reality of possible feedback into play a little more...but controllable. Sorta more like playing a plugged in hollow body jazz guitar this way, not too acoustic but it's a thing.

Whatever you're using it's working. It's a very pleasant tone. And I'm not subscribing to "it's all in the fingers" philosophy. It's not always that I find its tone pleasing when I listen to the various demos. My tube amp (20W combo) makes makes the Krivo sound the best, I love that tone.

Have I mentioned it lately? I really dislike the cable being wired into the pickup. I must have almost tripped on it several times in my trashed basement studio today. Graceful I ain’t but still…must remedy quickly!

On the plus side though, it's wired in well! I have a bit of crackle sometimes if I don't get my Stimer lead to sit properly in the socket. Any solutions to that?

I've shortened the pickup cable in the past. I used 1/8" instead of 1/4". Worked well being smaller. Drawback was I had to rely on a custom cable that I only had a one of.

@Jangle_Jamie something must be either losing contact or shorting out.
